Foundation Members End Subsidy of Easter Service

It Pays To Complain

By Matt and Linda Hughes

It pays to complain. And it's worth it. And it's such fun.

If you ever get bored and need a half hour's entertainment, the enclosed package of 24 letters to/from my local State Park superintendent (and his boss) might provide a smile or two.

Bottom line: our hometown Ministerial Association historically got free use of our local State Park for their annual Easter Sunrise worship service. Park staff would collect overtime pay from us taxpayers for coming in three hours before normal park hours to open gates and monitor the worshippers. I began my complaining after the 2001 Easter service. For the 2002 Easter service, the Ministerial Association paid a processing fee, overtime costs, and electricity costs.

It's a small victory (only a tiny amount of money that the taxpayers have been spared), but I'm tickled nonetheless.

Thanks for all the good work you're doing on a larger scale.

Matt and Linda Hughes are Foundation members from California.
