The 31st annual national convention of the Freedom From Religion Foundation will take place on the weekend of Oct. 10-12, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency Chicago on the Magnificent Mile.

You may reserve rooms for the convention at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E. Wacker Dr. The hotel is between the Chicago River and Lake Shore Drive, renowned for its shops, restaurants, hotels and museums.

Phone the Hyatt Regency Chicago directly at 1-888-421-1442 and mention "Freedom From Religion Foundation" to reserve your rooms. Single and double rooms are $169 plus tax. Triple occupancy is $194 and quadruple is $219. Rooms go fast (750 people registered for last year's FFRF convention), so plan ahead!

The Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E Wacker Dr., Chicago IL. Check-in is 3 p.m, check-out noon. The hotel, along the Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago, is 18 miles from OÕHare Airport and 12 miles from Midway Airport. Hotel room amenities include computer data port, hairdryer, ironing board, and high-speed Internet access throughout the hotel. The Hyatt Fitness Center is open 24 hours .

YYou won't go hungry. In-house dining include Stetson's Chop House, M-R, 5:30 p.m. -10 pm., F & Sat., 5-:30 - 10:30 p.m. Reservations: 312/239-4490. The Bistro at 151 is a wireless Internet environment serving breakfast and lunch, 6 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily. Pronto Mama's Italian Kitchen serves dinner 5-10 p.m. daily. DaddyO's Pub and Piano bar is open 5 p.m. - 1 a.m. J's Express is open 24 hours serving Starbucks coffee and beverages, breakfast pastries and sandwiches, salads, deli sandwiches, and ice cream. BIG Bar, with beer, flat screen TVs and big food, is open afternoons til late, and weekends 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

If you arrive early or stay late, there are multiple downtown Chicago attractions, such as the Chicago Board of Trade, Sears Tower, the lovely Art Institute of Chicago on the lake, The Civic Opera House, theater, and of course shops and restaurants. Public art found within the Loop includes works by Picasso (Untitled is in Daley Plaza), Chagal, Miro and Moore.

The newest tourist attraction (not to be missed) is the massive giant silver elliptical sculpture, "Cloud Gate," by British artist Anish Kapoor, part of

Millennium Park.

Also not to be missed there is the utterly charming Crown Fountain, where children can splash in the shallow fountain between giant faces with whimsical expressions projected on video screens. Millennium Park is very pretty this time of year.

Michigan Avenue, south of the river, is full of famous shops.
